What is a jersey hijab
A jersey hijab is a rectangular scarf in fine knitted fabric, made to wear every day. The cloth is soft, stays in place and drapes neatly around the face. At alsouq we carry Riha, our own line of premium jersey hijabs in seven quiet colours.
Fabric and composition
Each Riha hijab is woven from 94 percent polyester and 6 percent elastane. The fabric weighs around 150 grams with a gentle stretch. You get the drape of cotton with the stability of a technical fabric. Edges are finished cleanly and do not fray.
Size and fit
All Riha hijabs come in one size, 180 by 75 centimetres. That is a broad average, suited to most wrap styles. The length allows for a quiet drape without the ends getting in the way. One size fits most head shapes, for tight wraps or larger drapes.
Washing and care
Wash the hijab at 40 degrees in a laundry bag. Use a mild detergent without bleach. Air dry the cloth on a hanger, not in the tumble dryer. Ironing is usually not needed, but is fine on low heat. With proper care the fabric keeps its drape and colour for years.
Seven quiet colours
The Riha line has seven colours that complement, not shout. Mocha and Espresso for warm tones. Sand, Dusty Bone and Cloud for a neutral base. Sage and Storm for cooler accents. All in the same fabric, the same size and the same price of €14.99.
Why alsouq
alsouq is an independent Dutch online shop. We carry one hijab line instead of hundreds. That means we know every fabric, have worn every fit and have chosen every colour with care. Shipping leaves from the Netherlands, free above €75 in NL and BE.
Frequently asked questions
- Which colour should I pick first
- Start with a neutral that suits more than half of your outfits. Warm skin tones tend to work with Mocha. Cooler skin tones with Cloud or Storm. Dusty Bone is a safe middle ground.
- Does the fabric slip while worn
- Jersey has more natural grip than satin or chiffon. A simple undercap is usually enough. For an active day you can add a pin or magnet at the temple.
- How long does a hijab last
- With the right care the fabric stays beautiful for years. Wash at 40 degrees in a laundry bag, no tumble dryer and no bleach. The colour stays stable because the fabric resists sunlight well.
