What is an abaya
An abaya is a long overgarment with long sleeves, worn over the clothes you already have on. This page holds every abaya together: the open styles, the closed dresses and the sets. The size is the length of the garment in centimetres, from 138 to 153. Buying an abaya therefore starts with a number, not a letter.
Nida, linen and crinkle polyester
Three fabrics carry this range. Nida is a matte crepe: no shine, a smooth fall and hardly any creasing. Linen breathes best of the three, feels dry to the touch and creases visibly, which is what the fibre does. Crinkle polyester holds its texture in the cloth itself, so ironing is not needed and the crinkle returns after washing. The composition in percentages is on every product page.
The size is a length
The sizes are named M to 2XL, but the number that counts is the length: 138, 143, 148 and 153 centimetres. Measure without shoes, from the top of your shoulder straight down to the floor. Pick the length closest to that figure. If you want the hem to clear the ground, take the step below. With heels, take the step above.
Washing and care
Wash the garment at 30 degrees and hang it to dry. Not in the tumble dryer, because the drape does not come back from it. Ironing is fine on low heat, on the inside. No bleach and no fabric softener.
Black and the neutrals
The whole order is chosen neutral. Brown, coffee and dark coffee together are almost a third of it, and the black abaya is almost a quarter. There are no bright colours in it. Across eighteen Dutch and Belgian shops those stay on the rail longest, and that is the reason.
Why alsouq
We buy once a season and see every colour and every size before it goes online. That is why the range is small and deliberately chosen. Your order leaves from the Netherlands to 25 EU countries, and you have fourteen days to change your mind.
Frequently asked questions
Which length do I need
Measure without shoes, from your shoulder to the floor. The lengths run from 138 to 153 centimetres, in steps of five. Pick the number closest to your measurement, and the longer one if you are in doubt.
Open or closed abaya
The open style stays open at the front and needs a layer underneath, so it reads differently over black than over beige. The closed style is one garment you put on and are done with. If you would rather not think about layers, choose closed.
How do I wash an abaya
At 30 degrees in the machine and hung up to dry, not in the tumble dryer. No bleach and no fabric softener. Ironing is fine on low heat, on the inside.
